“The Sacrifice”, a film by Andrei Tarkovsky

“Sometimes, a person needs a little madness,

or else they never dare cut the rope and be free.”

“The Sacrifice”, Andrei Tarkovsky

In this collection are scenes from Andrei Tarkovsky’s films, reinterpreted with pen and ink. Each piece captures a moment from the film that resonates deeply with me, rendering its essence in stark black and white. A shade of red is the key element in every drawing, symbolizing the transformative fire at the film’s climax. This hint of color amid the monochrome signifies renewal and change, themes at the heart of Tarkovsky’s work. With these drawings, I “pause” my favorite film to experience these moments more intensely, more profoundly, inviting the viewer to join me in this engagement, either in dialogue or in silent contemplation.
